Long ago there lived a Sultan who loved to hear stories, stories that his ears alone would have the pleasure of hearing.
Every evening, after the storyteller would finish spinning her tale in front of the Sultan in his private chambers, he would cruelly have her put to death. The next day a new storyteller would be brought to the palace only to meet her untimely demise that very night.
Throughout the land, the Sultan's subjects came to learn about his pitiless ways. One day a beautiful lady, Shahrazad, came to the palace as the royal storyteller. The crafty and intelligent Shahrazad was fully striving to use her skills to save both her life and the lives of countless other women.
Each night she would create marvelous stories that would go on for hours, always promising the Sultan to reveal the ending on the very next evening. When the next evening would come, the Sultan once again would be treated to one of her fantastic stories. The conclusion of the previous night's story was skillfully woven into a whole new tale.
Always the Sultan was told he would have until the next night for the conclusion. This went on for many nights, in fact one thousand and one nights! By this time the Sultan had fallen completely in love with the cunning Shahrazad, and she came to love him as well. Together they were wed and lived happily ever after!
